Gas for a lighter

Nowadays it’s important to reuse as much as possible. That’s why it’s smart to order lighter gas along with your lighter. This gas is often butane-based.
These cans are available in different sizes. It’s always advisable to use a good brand/quality lighter gas for your lighter.

How to refill a lighter with gas?

If you have a can of butane, shake it a few times before use. On the bottom of your lighter you’ll usually find the valve. Press the gas can firmly against this valve. Hold it for about 2 seconds. If you notice the lighter still isn’t filled enough, repeat this step.

Afterwards, always let your lighter sit for a few minutes. This allows any remaining gas to settle. It also helps the gas distribute evenly. If you notice some gas has escaped and a kind of condensation forms on the lighter, let it sit for at least 5 minutes so the escaped gas can evaporate and won’t cause any issues.

Differences in gas?

As mentioned, we recommend purchasing a good brand of butane gas. The difference between gases often comes down to the oil content used in the butane. In general, lower-quality brands contain a higher oil percentage. You might not notice it immediately, but the lighter will become dirtier due to the oil content. So pay close attention to what you buy, especially if you use an expensive lighter you want to keep for a long time. Brands to look for include Dupont and Flameclub.

Lighter fluid

Lighter fluid is another type of refill, often used with Zippos.
Because this fluid is liquid rather than gas, it’s retained inside the Zippo.
Note: lighter fluid can evaporate. So if a Zippo isn’t used for a while, you may need to refill it.
