Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The strength of the gum should be selected according to your nicotine dependence:
- If you smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day, or if previous attempts to quit with 2 mg gum were unsuccessful, use the 4 mg gum.
- Otherwise, use the 2 mg gum.
At the start of treatment, take one piece of gum every 1–2 hours. In most cases, 8–12 pieces per day are sufficient.
When used for smoking reduction or smoking cessation:
- 2 mg gum: maximum 24 pieces per day.
- 4 mg gum: maximum 12 pieces per day.
Smoking cessation
Treatment duration is individual but usually lasts at least 3 months. After this period, the nicotine dose should be gradually reduced. Treatment should be stopped when usage has been reduced to 1–2 pieces of gum per day. If cravings occur, a piece of gum may be used.
Smoking reduction
Nicotine Gum Linn can be used between smoking periods to extend smoke-free intervals and reduce smoking as much as possible. Cigarettes should gradually be replaced with Nicotine Gum Linn.
If, after 6 weeks, you have not managed to reduce your daily cigarette consumption by at least half, you should seek professional advice.
You should make a serious attempt to stop smoking when you feel ready, but no later than 4 months after starting treatment. Afterward, the number of gums should be gradually reduced, for example by eliminating one piece every 2–5 days.
If you have not succeeded in quitting smoking within 4 months despite a serious attempt, seek professional help.
Regular use of Nicotine Gum Linn for more than 6 months is generally not recommended. In some cases, longer treatment may be required to prevent relapse. Keep spare gum available, as cravings to smoke may return suddenly.
Advice and support improve the chances of success.
Directions for use
At the start, use 1 piece every 1–2 hours; usually 8–12 pieces per day are sufficient. After 3 months, gradually reduce the dosage and stop when using only 1–2 pieces per day. Do not use for longer than 6 months.
Do not eat or drink while chewing the gum. Stop consuming acidic drinks (such as coffee, fruit juice, or soft drinks) at least 15 minutes before use.
